Art is a powerful tool for social change. We can change the world through murals, comics, paintings, music, dance, poetry, stories, sculpture, photography, and other forms of creative expression. The ArtSpace at the CCC is a place for sharing and dialoguing about social issues through art.

The ArtSpace also supports local artists by showcasing the work of students, staff, faculty, alumni, and San Diego community members. We create a venue for these artists to show their work/spread their ideas, particularly those working around themes of culture and social justice issues. We are always looking for artists to showcase.

« If you would like your work to be displayed at the Cross-Cultural Center, please download our ArtSpace Artist Submission form.

“Art is the heart’s explosion on the world. Music. Dance. Poetry. Art on cars, on walls, on our skins. There is probably no more powerful force for change in this uncertain and crisis-ridden world than young people and their art. It is the consciousness of the world breaking away from the strangle grip of an archaic social order.” ~ Louis Rodriguez

Soulful (re)visions is a collection of collaged prints and other works by Loralei Rose Bingamon, which explores the connection between the (un)conscious self and the power of expression through creation. Each piece is a reflection of various people, groups, current events,  and various ideologies which have deeply affected the artist and the way she views the world.

Soulful (re)visions will be on display for the Spring 2009 Art Walk in the Price Center. Check out all the shows and activities happening as a part of Art Walk!

Artists Statement:

As an artist, I draw inspiration for my pieces both from my lived experiences and a multiracial Pinay and from my interations with the community at large. What moved me to create is my desire to visually bring into life my inner most thoughts, feelings, and emotions of which I have no words, but find necessary to express.

Collage is the art form which I often choose for my process. Using found images or photos I have taken myself, I construct what is before me, and piece together something completely new and representative of my feelings at that present moment. Often, looking back at the images I have created allows me to watch my personal growth process before my own eyes.To me, the power for us as humans to create and be creative is essential to life. Without creativity we remain stagnant and unable to grow and experience life more fully.
